Who built the city of Troy and when was it built?
The city of Troy was built over 4,000 years ago and was built by the gods Poseidon and Apollo while they were under punishment (their punishment was to work for mortal men without any pay or any rewards). Apollo and Poseidon were forced to build Troy for Laomedon (the son of Ilus who is the founder of the city Ilion and the king of Troy). The gods asked Aeacus to help them construct Troy (Aeacus was a mythological king of the island of Aegina in the Saronic Gulf and was a mortal) because it was declared that Troy would be owned by mortals.
